Day 1 : POSITIONS Berlin Art Fair 2020

The POSITIONS Berlin Art Fair, held on September 10th-13th, 2020, showcases international contemporary and modern art. Collaborating with paper positions.berlin, photo basel Berlin and FASHION POSITIONS, the fair will be presenting more than 130 exhibitors at the Berlin-Tempelhof Airport. The POSITIONS Berlin Art Fair welcomes visitors to engage in their program events consisting of talks, awards and special exhibitions. 

Kicking off this Thursday (September 10th, 2020) with the official Preview Day, here are the highlights:

FASHION POSITIONS Awards

Tra My Nguyen, ‘using one’s feet has become an option of last resort’

The little sister of Fashion Week, FASHION POSITIONS, presented 20 young designers to take a position on the future of art and fashion. A jury made up of fashion experts and art connoisseurs elected young designer, Tra My Nguyen, the winner of the “FASHION POSITIONS Award” based on best booth creation and visualization of the interface between art and fashion. Tra My Nguyen is a visual artist and designer based in Berlin, her work draws upon feminist and Vietnamese diaspora perspectives examining humanity’s relations with technology and consumerism . 

In addition, the “FASHION POSITIONS Academy Award” was given to designer, Laura Gerte, as a young emerging fashion label.

Berlin based artist, Iris Schomaker, has been using paper as a primary medium for her figurative paintings and landscapes for 20 years. Her work goes beyond a depiction of reality but instead conveys an idea and an experience. Schomaker was presented the paper positions award by rka which honors a prominent contemporary position on the subject drawing and the artistic medium of paper.
