DeAndre Tuck is an illustrator from Baltimore, Maryland. With a mind open to creative exploration, he strives to create work that leaves the interpreting up to the viewer.
How has your upbringing influenced you as an artist today?
As an artist from Baltimore, The Art District plays a heavy role in where I draw influence from. The exposure to various art forms from a young age has taught me that there is no “right” way to create, only discovery through exploration. Baltimore has taught me to relentlessly strive to be my authentic self and speak only my truth.
What stories or messages do you wish to tell through your creations?
As of now, I’m currently enrolled in school for my bachelor in Illustration, That said the message in these works is prompted by the assignment I was given at the time. I enjoy creating unique works and leaving interpretation up to the viewer as I am a firm believer that a picture is worth a thousand words. But No one said those words had to come from me. What challenges have you found pursuing a creative career?
What advice would you give to emerging artists?
The biggest challenges I’ve faced while pursuing my creative career are Breaking bad habits and Positive reception of criticism. It can be hard to step out of your comfort zone and use an unfamiliar technique. However, as an artist, it’s important to push yourself to look for more efficient ways to convey your style. Critique is also an important part if this process because it gives the artist a chance to consider other perspectives when creating.
What project(s) are you currently working on?
As of now, I am currently taking commissions and in my spare time, I sketch fashion.
